The library was set up to support research facilities and reference material for officers and course participants of IDFR. Its provides various types of services including Circulation, Reference, Interlibrary Loan, Cataloging of Library Materials, Online Database Services, Internet and Photocopying .
The IDFR Library which housed the Institute’s collection of books also serves as its repository for photographs, serials (journals and magazines), seminar papers, theses, project papers and various storage media such as audio tapes, CDs, cassettes, videotapes and DVDs.
The library has a comprehensive collection on diplomacy, international relations and related disciplines such as globalization, negotiation and strategic studies. The collections caters the information needs of IDFR staff, officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and course participants.
As of 31 December 2016, the total collection at IDFR Library stands at 28, 733 which comprises of books, bound journals, master theses, seminar paper, project paper, documents and media items. Of these, 21, 939 are books, 2637 are bound journals, 284 are master theses, 222 are seminar papers, 808 are documents, 159 are project papers and the overall media collection is 2684 copies.
